Latest Company News

Aini Ismail, Feb 19, 2013

We are recently working together with consultancy companies to get the best ideas on the market.  As a consultancy company, we need to have insights from other organizations on new developments and projects.

ADVISORY

It has been mentioned in Media that consultancy companies are misleading applicants on Programs especially in Norway.  I hope the Media does not generalize  since SUAS (Skills Unlimited) does not in anyway mislead their applicants.  All information and true facts on programs are available during the orientation.

What is Human Trafficking?

Human Trafficking is a crime against humanity. It involves an act of recruiting, transporting, transfering, harbouring or receiving a person through a use of force, coercion or other means, for the purpose of exploiting them (UNODC). It affects men, as well as women and children.

Human trafficking is the acquisition of people by improper means such as force, fraud or deception, with the aim of exploiting them (United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime 2000).

The international Labour Organisation (ILO 2012) estimates that around one million Filipino men and women migrate abroad each year for work opportunities. Of these migrants a significant number are subjected to conditions of forced labour, bondage and sexual exploitation.

Human trafficking involves the recruitment, transportation and harbouring of persons, through the use of force or other means of coercion, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitations include amongst others prostitution of others and other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour and services, servitude or the removal of organs.

Human trafficking differs from smuggling. Whilst smuggling requires travel, trafficking does not. Much of the confusion thus rests with the term itself. The word trafficking includes the word traffic which resembles transportation or travel. But whereas people request or sometimes hire an individual to help them move from one location to another, victims of human trafficking are not permitted to leave upon arrival at their destination.
Trafficked people are held against their will through acts of coercion and forced to work or provide services to the trafficker.

In the Philippines, traffickers regularly. and often in partnership with organized crime groups and complicit law enforcement officers, operate through false recruitment agencies to traffic migrants.

Although the Philippines is a source and to a lesser extent a destination country for men, women and children who are being subjected to sex trafficking and forced labour, internal trafficking also remains a significant problem. People are trafficked from rural areas to urban centres including Manila, Cebu, Angeles and cities in Mindanao.

Traffickers use local recruiters sent to villages and urban neighborhoods to recruit people, often pretending to be representatives of government-registered employment agencies. These deceiving recruitment practices and the practice of paying recruitment fees often leave workers vulnerable to forced labor, debt bondage, and commercial sexual exploitation.

Whereas women and children often become targets for trafficking in the forms of domestic work and sexual exploitation, men are also subjected to forced labor and debt bondage, most commonly in the agriculture, fishing and maritime industries.

Filipino migrant workers who become victims to trafficking, both at home and abroad, usually experience violence, threats, inhumane living conditions, non-payment of salaries and withholding of travel and identity documents.
